July Meeting.. - Tuesday, July 13, 2010Good Morning Utah Garden Railway Society
I wanted to get this out last week but I literally kept getting side tracked in my own back yard. I’m still in a race to get my railroad operational before August for my daughter’s wedding reception. Enough about my situation this month’s meeting will be this Saturday (July 17th) at 10:00 AM. Our primary host will be David Fulghum. Anyone in the UGRS who has been at all active know that Dave has been one of our most active members (and is our web master). He has been an actively organized and supported a number of club activities. Last year Dave had and an open house to show us his around the yard planter table layout. Last fall Dave decided the table system just wasn’t working for him and he tore it down and replaced it with raised bed layout and the LP&W became operational on June 29th. As I said Dave is the primary host for Julys meeting and lives at 10791 South 1000 E. in Sandy, Ut.
I would like some secondary hosts in the area to volunteer to show their layouts also. If you live nearby (10-15 minutes drive time)and have a garden railway to share with the rest of the club please contact me and plan to bring driving instructions from Dave's house to your location, to our meeting. Visiting each other’s railroads is what this club is for in sharing ideas. We’ll see you all there.
Directions to Dave Fulghum’s home:
1. From I-15 take exit 293, and go east on to 10600 S.(SR-151).
2. Continue east on 10600 S. for 1.8 miles to 1000 East and turn right.
3. Proceed south on 1000 East 0.2 miles to Lafayett St.
4. Dave’s house (10791 S. on 1000 E.) is on the southeast corner. Go around to the backyard.
If you need to contact Dave its; 801-495-3495 or davefulghum@q.com

June meeting at Bryan's... - Monday, June 14, 2010UGRS
Its June and hopefully summer is here. This coming Saturday (June 19th) is our Utah Garden Railway Society club meeting to be held at Bryan Smiths home in Toole Utah. Those of you that know Bryan know that he is a very talented modeler. A couple of years ago Bryan decided he wanted a unique locomotive so he acquired the drawings and built it from scratch starting with a couple of glued up blocks of wood and wound up with a piece of traction power that looks like came out of a show case at your hobby model shop. And since then he has built a number of rolling stock pieces in styrene plastic including additional locomotives, he is presently working on the turbine powered locomotive that was operated Union Pacific in the early 60’s. And somewhere he has had time to put in an outside garden railroad that I’m looking forward to see. Bryan lives at 3915 North 570 West, Toole, Utah. The meeting will start at 10:00 AM. Our hosts home phone number is (435-882-8095), mobile(435-830-9436). Driving Instructions are below.
Thank-you to all those who participated in our dual May meeting. The Scout Jamborall had about a dozen of us that participated, and we sure wow a lot of folks who came to view our railroad. Manfred demonstrated locomotive that he has modified the smoke generator to the point that its shooting heavy smoke a couple of feet above the stack as it moves around the layout. I heard that some of you made the trek to Elko, NV. To view the Seneks pike during their open house and were rewarded with a great exibit of just how much fun you can get into with this hobby.
Myself, I’ve broken ground on my own back yard pike but have been sorely hampered by all the rain. Hopefully this week I can start making some real progress. I hope to see you all at Bryan’s this Saturday. Remember we always like to see anything of interest that any one has to share at our meetings on our hobby. See ya Saturday.

Lot's to do in May... - Wednesday, May 05, 2010Hey Utah Garden Railway Society
Spring is finally here and we’re into the lusty month of MAY. We have to big activities available for our meeting this month. Unfortunately you’ll have to choose between one or the other since they are about 270 miles apart.
Activity 1. Is an open house being offered by Ron and Holly Senek in Spring Creek Nevada (just south of Elko). If you have never seen the Senek’s layout, it is definitely worth the trip. Ron and Holly live on a 5 acre lot of which about half of it is covered with 3000+ ft. of track operating a couple of trains at once crossing over and under each other on numerous bridges and through towns villages and mining camps as well as rambling over the Nevada brush lands. The Senek’s have put out the following invitation to all that would like to come. “As most of you are aware we are having an open house for the club and also invited the MyLargeScale on line people. May 15 and May 16, 2010. At (562 Gallinas Dr.) Spring Creek Nevada. Bring your trains with battery power or just run our trains. Live Steam also an option. Anytime during those two days the layout will be available.”
If you need further information email or call us Ron 775-934-5752 or Holly 775-934-8497. Email; rjhlsenek@wirelessbehive.com
Activity 2. We have been invited to participate in the 100 year anniversary celebration of the Boy Scouts of America at the Trapper Trails Council Jamborall to be held at the Weber County Fair Grounds on the north side of Ogden Ut. We will be setting up in the east exhibit hall on Friday, May 14th starting at noon. They have asked us to operate our layout from 6 to 9 PM that evening and from 9am to 3pm on Saturday. There will be more than 100 exhibitors set-up throughout the fair and are expecting more than 15,000 participants and visitors. We are being given enough room to set-up the entire module like it was at the south town expo-center. To get to the Weber County Fair Ground proceed as follows:
1. On I-15 just north of Ogden take Exit 346 on Pioneer Rd. turning East (toward the mountains).
2. Pioneer Rd. will transition into 400 North. Continue for about a mile until you come to a stop sign or traffic signal at 1200 West and turn Right.
3. Proceed North on 1200 West approximately ¾ of a mile to Bill Bailey Blvd. and turn Right, (entrance to the fairgrounds).
4. The Exhibit Halls are on the north side of the outdoor exhibit area the East Hall being east of the West Hall. There is a large parking lot on the north side of the halls but they may be limiting parking there.
We will be in the East end of the East Exhibit Hall. There will be food concessions / free admission to the public and free parking. Also feel free to bring your families there will be lots to see and do among the other exhibitors (monkey bridges, archery, BB gun range, dutch oven cooking, climbing wall, cubscout crafts and dozens of other exhibits including law enforcement and the military. If you have any questions, contact me.
